Linear Utility Projects
PROJECT: Jefferson-Martin 230kV Transmission Line Project, San Mateo County
CLIENT: Pacific Gas & Electric Company
Nomad coordinated and managed the Avian Protection Program in accordance with CEQA mitigation requirements and federal/state permit conditions during the construction phase of the project, which extended 28-miles through a variety of sensitive habitat including portions of managed habitat owned by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and lands comprising the San Bruno Mountain Habitat Conservation Plan.
PROJECT: West Sacramento-Davis 115kV Transmission Line Reconductor and Pole Replacement Project, Yolo and Sacramento Counties
CLIENT: Pacific Gas & Electric Company
Nomad peer reviewed biological reports, prepared a Biological Resources Assessment, delineated potentially jurisdictional wetlands and waters of the U.S., and identified regulatory and biological constraints within the 4-mile portion of the project passing through the Yolo Bypass. Field surveys confirmed the presence of the federally- and state-Threatened giant garter snake (Thamnophis gigas) and state-Threatened Swainson’s hawks (Buteo swainsonii) within the Yolo Bypass.
PROJECT: San Bruno Mountain Transmission Line Reconductor and Gas Line Inspection Projects, San Mateo County
CLIENT: Pacific Gas & Electric Company
Nomad performed biological compliance monitoring and environmental awareness training for several transmission and gas line projects crossing the San Bruno Mountain Habitat Conservation Plan area. Botanical surveys were conducted for federal and state-listed plants, including San Bruno Mountain manzanita (Arctostaphylos imbricate) and for the larval host plants for the federally-Endangered mission blue (Icaricia icarioides missionensis), Callippe silverspot (Speyeria callippe callippe), and San Bruno elfin (Callophyrs mossii bayensis) butterflies.
PROJECT: Gas Line 210B Casing Mitigation Project, Solano County
CLIENT: Pacific Gas & Electric Company
Nomad performed a site reconnaissance and background review for the casing repair of Gas Line 210B to ascertain the potential for on-site habitats to support all life stages of the federally-Threatened California tiger salamander (Ambystoma californiense), the special-status plant species Carquinez goldenbush (Isocoma arguta) and heartscale (Atriplex cordulata), and state and federally-listed vernal pool invertebrates.
PROJECT: Tesla-Tracy 230kV Transmission Line Reconductor Project, Alameda County
CLIENT: Pacific Gas & Electric Company
Nomad prepared a Biological Habitat Assessment, drafted impact avoidance measures, prepared environmental training materials, and conducted environmental awareness training and construction monitoring for the project because of pecial-status species identified within the project area, including the California red-legged frog (Rana aurora draytonii), California tiger salamander (Ambystoma californiense), San Joaquin kit fox (Vulpes macrotis mutica), and western burrowing owl (Vulpes macrotis mutica).
Regulatory Compliance & Mitigation Monitoring
PROJECT: Multi-Project Mitigation & Compliance Monitoring
CLIENT: Pacific Gas & Electric Company
Nomad conducted biological mitigation and compliance monitoring for a variety of PG&E transmission and gas line projects and emergency repair projects.
PROJECT: Burrowing Owl Habitat Assessment
CLIENT: Pacific Gas & Electric Company
Nomad conducted Phase I Habitat Assessments for the California Species of Special Concern western burrowing owls (Athene cunicularia hypugaea) for ten PG&E substations throughout Central California.
Public Agencies
PROJECT: Crystal Springs Pipeline Number 2
CLIENT: San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and City/County of San Francisco
Nomad conducted a Biological Resources Assessment and Wetland Delineation for the 19-mile Crystal Springs Pipeline Number 2 project in San Mateo and San Francisco counties, which provides suitable habitat for the federally/state-Endangered San Francisco garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis tetrataenia), federally-Threatened California red-legged frog (Rana aurora draytonii), federally-Threatened steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss irideus, Central California Coast ESU), federally-Endangered mission blue butterfly (Icaricia icarioides missionensis), federally-Endangered Callippe silverspot butterfly (Speyeria callippe callippe), federally-Endangered San Mateo woolly sunflower (Eriophyllum latilobum), and Federally-Endangered white-rayed pentachaeta (Pentachaeta bellidiflora).
PROJECT: Eastern Deer Hill Road Planning Area Project
CLIENT: City of Lafayette
Nomad conducted a Biological Opportunities and Constraints Analysis for the seven parcels comprising 102.74 acres in the City of Lafayette, Contra Costa County, California. Nomad prepared a preliminary assessment of on-site biological resources describing existing conditions, identifying sensitive biological resources, and evaluating the potential for special-status plant and wildlife species to occur onsite.
PROJECT: Highway 1 / Terrace Avenue Signalization and Roadway Improvement Project
CLIENT: City of Half Moon Bay
Nomad conducted a Biological Resources Assessment and Wetland Delineation for the 1 Highway 1/Terrace Avenue Signalization and Roadway Improvements project located in San Mateo County. The project area provides suitable habitat for the federally/state-Endangered San Francisco garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis tetrataenia), federally-Threatened California red-legged frog (Rana aurora draytonii), and Fully Protected white-tailed kite (Elanus leucurus).
PROJECT: Moody Road Pathway Project
CLIENT: Town of Los Altos Hills
Nomad conducted a Biological Resources Assessment for the expansion of a multipurpose bike and pedestrian path. Several special-status species were known to occur in the area, including three California Native Plant Society List 1B plants species - the western leatherwood (Dirca occidentalis), Loma Prieta hoita (Hoita strobilina), and Davidson’s bush mallow (Malacothamnus davidsonii) - and the Fully Protected white-tailed kite (Elanus leucurus), California Species of Special Concern foothill yellow-legged frog (Rana boylii), and California Species of Special Concern San Francisco dusky-footed woodrat (Neotoma fuscipes annectens).
