• WETLAND DELINEATION - Arid West Region's Wetland Determination Data Form ( * see note below)
[Revised: 07.02.07]
In December 2006, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Environmental Laboratory debuted their revised “Interim Regional Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual: Arid West Region (ERDC/EL TR-06-16),” a supplement to the USACE’s 1987 “Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual.” Among the supplement’s new features is the revised Wetland Determination Data Form, which includes worksheets to calculate the Dominance Test and Prevalence Index to determine whether hydrophytic vegetation indicators are present.
This winter, Nomad developed a digital Adobe Acrobat XML PDF version of the Arid West Region’s Wetland Determination Data Form that performs the worksheet’s calculations (for all fields highlighted in grey) simultaneous to data entry.
Among the digital Wetland Determination Data Form’s features are:
- Automatic calculations for the Dominance Test and Prevalence Index worksheets based on user-entered data.
- Automatic calculations to determine whether or not the hydrophytic vegetation indicators meet the Dominance Test and Prevalence Index based on user-entered data.
- Automatic calculations of absolute cover within each stratum based on user-entered data.
- Hierarchical tabbing to streamline data entry.
• WESTERN POND TURTLE SURVEY - Western Pond Turtle Nest Survey Form ( * see note below)
The western pond turtle (Clemmys marmorata) is a notoriously cryptic nester, moving upland in the early morning or late afternoon to excavate a pear-shaped cavity and deposit its eggs. On the rare occasion when nests are detected, certain characteristics of nest architecture can give biologists insight into the nesting behavior of this reptile. To help biologists gather this information in the field, Nomad has developed a digital Adobe Acrobat XML PDF survey form to standardize the collection of nest and nest-site characteristics.
